Ramdas Athawale after meeting with the actor

Kangana Ranaut said she felt insulted, Ramdas Athawale said.

Mumbai:

Actor Kangana Ranaut, whose Mumbai property was demolished by the civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Wednesday for alleged illegal construction, feels insulted and wants compensation, Rajya Sabha MP Ramdas Athawale said Thursday after meeting with her in the capital of Maharashtra. The politician, an ally of the BJP, also assured the support of his party for the actor.

“I met the actor Kangana Ranaut and spoke with her for an hour. I told her that she has nothing to fear in Mumbai … Mumbai is the economic capital of the country and everyone has the right to live here … my party (RPI) is with her, “he told reporters after the meeting.

“She told me that she felt insulted. Her office that they built in January has been damaged. She said she did not know that the builder built 2 to 3 inches more. The BMC should have demolished that part, but it damaged the interior walls and furniture. he has approached the court against this and wants compensation, “he added.

Using a bulldozer and excavators, a BMC team demolished the alterations allegedly made without civic agency approval at his home Wednesday.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar had told NDTV that he had not produced documents “in 24 hours”.

The Bombay High Court, following the actor’s request on Wednesday, ordered the demolition of his home to halt, but until then, considerable property damage had been done. The court today postponed hearing the case until September 22.

BMC’s move comes amid a furious and bitter exchange between Shiv Sena’s ruling leaders and the actor, who has criticized the Maharashtra government’s handling of the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

After Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut asked the actor not to visit Mumbai last week, Ms Ranaut’s comment that “Mumbai felt like PoK (Pakistan occupied Kashmir)” sparked a lot of controversy.

As several Sena leaders made objectionable comments against her, she challenged the party to prevent her from coming to Mumbai on 9 September.

BMC’s move has raised questions such as whether the actress had been given enough time, having been out of Mumbai for months, and why no action was taken earlier.
