Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar thanked Ramayan show creator Ramanand Sagar for allowing the epic series to air during the shutdown. In a letter written in Hindi to the filmmaker, the Minister wrote that he wanted to broadcast the show during the closing and thanked Ramanand Sagar’s family for providing the epic series.
Ramayan recently broke a world record by becoming the most watched show in the world. According to data released by BARC India, the series received 77 million impressions on April 16.
The minister wrote: “The series first aired 40 years ago and people loved it. But back then, there weren’t many televisions and people used to go to other people’s houses to watch the show.”
He added: “But now, the stage has changed. About 18 million crore televisions are in use in India. The new generation, who had not seen Ramayan before, is also seeing it now. And those who had seen it before, they are remembering good old memories. “
The show recently broke all records and became the most watched show in the world. Speaking of this feat, Prakash Javadekar wrote: “Ramayan has become the most popular program in this category. In India, it has become the most popular program in all categories. On April 16, Ramayan became the most popular program seen in the world. 7 crore and 70 lakh people have seen and loved him. “
The Minister also thanked all the actors, writers, producers and everyone associated with the show on behalf of Doordarshan.

From March 28, when its replay began on DD National, Ramayan continued to be the most watched show in India, week after week. The show returned to Doordarshan to keep viewers hooked on television so they could stay home.
Ramayan concluded on April 18 and was replaced by Uttar Ramayan, which tells the story of the twins Luv and Kush of Ram and Sita.
