Mumbai:
Actor Rakul Preet Singh was questioned for four hours in Mumbai today in a drug case linked to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Yesterday she was to be questioned by the Narcotics Control Office (NCB), but it was postponed until today after she claimed that she had not received “the alleged summons.
“Rakul Preet Singh’s statement was recorded today by the SIT (special investigation team). It will be analyzed and presented to the court,” said NCB Director General Mutha Ashok Jain.
Actor Deepika Padukone will be questioned tomorrow. His manager, Karishma Prakash, was questioned today and will likely be called back tomorrow. Karishma Prakash’s interrogation lasted much longer than that of Rakul Preet Singh, which lasted four hours, sources said.
The NCB questioned Rakul Preet Singh and Karishma Prakash about the content of the WhatsApp chat that allegedly indicated that marijuana was purchased for consumption.
The drug investigation that began with the questioning of actor Rhea Chakraborty three months after Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai home has been expanded to include several people with ties to Bollywood.
Deputy Director Kshitij Raviprasad and Anubhav Chopra were also questioned today by the anti-drug agency. Investigators raided the home of Kshitij Raviprasad.
NCB sources said that Kshitij Raviprasad’s name came up during the questioning of some suspected drug traffickers.
While Rhea Chakraborty was arrested for her alleged links to drug traffickers, digital evidence found on mobile phones and laptops seized from other defendants led to intelligence on drug trafficking, which was subsequently verified, sources said.
The NCB says its investigation is aimed at capturing drug providers, but it is looking at how these providers networked and who their customers were.
Rhea Chakraborty has been in jail since 9 September on charges of arranging drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput. Her brother Showik Chakraborty and two Sushant Singh Rajput employees are also among 15 arrested on the basis of 59 grams of drugs found during raids in Mumbai.
