Chennai: Announcing that the time has come to change the fate of Tamil Nadu, film actor Rajinikanth announced on Thursday that he would launch his political party in 2021 and make an announcement about it on December 31.
Along with a hashtag ‘will change, everything will change … if not now, never’ in Tamil, Rajinikanth first announced his decision on Twitter before leaving his home after noon to meet with the media corps, whose members had been waiting for hours.
“I don’t mind giving my life,” he said, adding that “political change is very important. It is a compulsion. So I’m starting a party. ‘
He said he never took back his word. If he lost the elections, it would be the loss of the people and if he won, it would be the victory of the people, he said.
Recalling that he had said in 2017 that he would run candidates in all 234 electoral districts and that he planned to tour the state to create a renaissance among the people, he said that he could not do so due to the coronavirus crisis.
As he had undergone a kidney transplant, his body had less resistance when more immunity was needed during the time of Covid-19, he said. So, he couldn’t meet people directly, he said. “I came back alive from Singapore just because of the prayers of the people of Tamil Nadu,” he added.
He also introduced two of his officers who threw themselves into the game. One was Tamilaruvimanian, who has been meeting Rajinikanth for a long time and having conversations with him for long hours, as well as even giving interviews to media organizations about the actor’s plans. He would be the supervisor of the party.
The other was Ra Arjunamurthy, who was the state president of the BJP’s Intellectual Wing. Shortly after Rajinikanth announced that he would be the main coordinator, the BJP State Secretary General Karu Nagarajan issued a statement saying that Arjunamurthy’s resignation had been accepted and that he had been relieved of all responsibilities in the party of permanently.
As for party affairs, the BJP cadres were urged not to have any trucks with Arjunamurthy, who had been actively participating in the activities of state units. He attended the meeting led by the Union Interior Minister Amit Shah when he visited Chennai about 10 days ago. He was also arrested for participating in Vel Yatra in Palani.
In reaction to Arjunamurthy’s appointment, VCK General Secretary Thol Thirumavalavan tweeted that Rajinikanth was under pressure. It would only function as another face of the BJP, he said. Rajinikanth also wanted to project him as a right-wing politician, he tweeted.
Tamil Maanila Muslim League President Sheikh Dawood said Rajinikanth would only split the Congress-DMK votes allowing AIADMK to emerge victorious in the elections. His entry into politics would affect him and not the people of the state, he said.
‘The key battle will probably be between Rajinikanth and Sasikala. BJP will be in a quandary, ” BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said in a tweet, suggesting AIADMK might suffer. But the Minister of Fisheries, D Jayakumar, reacted to the announcement of the actors saying that it would not affect the AIADMK.
However, many BJP leaders, including S Gurumurthy, and the actor’s fans were elated by the decision. At one point, a hashtag in the ad was trending in the state.
Rajinikanth in a tweet said that he would usher in Tamil Nadu a policy based on honesty, integrity, transparency and spirituality without depending on caste or religion. Safe to create. It will be a miracle, a wonder. It will happen, ” he said.
