Rajinikanth, who played an auto-rickshaw driver in his 1995 blockbuster ‘Baasha’, has probably gone for the symbol as he will have an easy connection with people. Even after 25 years, the Tamil superstar Manickam’s character in the film is still highly admired by his fans. At every Aayudha pooja festival, auto-rickshaw drivers across the state are often seen performing Rajinikanth’s iconic song ‘Naan autokaran’ from the film.

According to sources, the applicant who registered the party is a senior official from Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) in Thoothukudi. The registration process was done on behalf of another person following Rajinikanth’s instructions. The applicant’s details are not known either.

It was also learned that Rajinikanth’s party was first recorded as ‘Anaithindhiya Makkal Shakthi Kazhagam’ with the actor pursuing his characteristic ‘two-fingered’ pose, which became famous after his 2002 film Baba, as the symbol of the party.

In 1996, when Rajinikanth had pledged his support for the late GK Moopanar’s Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) -DMK alliance in assembly elections, Rajinikanth’s party used lines from Rajinikanth’s 1992 film ‘Annamalai’ as a theme. musical of your party. Rajinikanth had rehearsed the role of a milkman in the film. The Moopanar TMC, which was launched just before the elections, used posters of Rajinikanth riding a bicycle for their campaign while they disputed the bicycle symbol.

Rajinikanth fans campaigned across the state for the TMC-DMK alliance on bikes, which is said to have played a major role in their victory in their debut pick.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has denied the ‘Battery Torch’ symbol to actor Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) in Tamil Nadu for the 2021 assembly elections. The commission has assigned the symbol to MNM alone in Puducherry and a party called MGR Makkal Katchi in Tamil Nadu.

Reacting to the development, Haasan said that “democracy is now on a sickbed” adding that if they are denied the symbol of the ‘Battery Torch’, they will become Kalangarai Vilakku (Lighthouse). On the other hand, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam of TTV Dhinakaran has been assigned the “pressure cooker” symbol in both Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
