Actor and politician Rajinikanth, who was admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad on Friday for “severe fluctuations” in his blood pressure, is “making good progress,” a medical bulletin said this morning. His blood pressure, however, “is still on the higher side,” he added.
The 70-year-old megastar was in Hyderabad for her movie “Annathe,” but filming was canceled earlier this week after four team members tested positive for coronavirus. Rajinikanth had tested negative for Covid on Tuesday, Apollo Hyderabad said.
“Rajinikanth, who was admitted yesterday, is progressing well. He had an uneventful night and his blood pressure is still on the higher side, although he is under better control than yesterday. His investigations have revealed nothing alarming so far. He is scheduled to a new series of investigations today, the reports of which will be available tonight, “reads this morning’s statement from Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad.
He has been advised “complete rest” and “visitors are not allowed to find it,” he added. A decision on his discharge will be made in the evening, according to the statement.
His fans and admirers hope that next week’s long-awaited event when he is scheduled to announce the launch date of his new political party will not be canceled. The December 31 event comes just a few months before the Tamil Nadu elections.
For 25 years, his political downfall had been a subject of speculation, but despite intervening on various issues, he stayed away from active politics.
Yesterday, actor and politician Kamal Haasan wished him a speedy recovery. “Wishes for Rajinikanth’s speedy recovery,” the 66-year-old actor tweeted in Tamil.
Haasan, whose Makkal Needhi Maiam will face his first election in the assembly, had expressed his willingness to work with Rajinikanth earlier this month, hinting at a possible alliance.
Tamil Nadu will vote to elect its next government in May.
