A man from Ajmer, Rajasthan, ‘gifted’ his wife three acres of land on the Moon on their wedding anniversary. The man, Dharmendra Anija, said he “bought” land on the Moon because he wanted to do something special for his wife, Sapna Anija, on their eighth wedding anniversary.
“It was our wedding anniversary on December 24th. I wanted to do something special for her. Everyone gives away earthly possessions like cars and jewelry, but I wanted to do something different. Therefore, I bought land on the Moon for her”, Dharmendra Anija was cited by ANI.
Dharmendra Anija ‘bought’ the land through Luna Society International. Dharmendra Anija said the entire process took about a year to complete.
“I am happy. I think I am the first man in Rajasthan to buy land on the Moon,” he added.
Sapna Anija said she never expected to receive such a special “out of the world” gift from her husband.
“I am extremely happy. I never expected him to give me something so special. The party was organized by professional event organizers and the setting was surreal,” Sapna Anija said.
She added: “It felt like we were literally on the moon. There, during the ceremony, he presented me with a framed certificate of ownership document.”
While private ownership of outer space is not possible, giveaway websites still ‘sell pieces of lunar earth’ and provide ‘certification’ to those willing to ‘buy’ them.
In 2018, Sushant Singh Rajput had bought what he claimed to be a piece of lunar land on the other side of the Moon, in a region called Mare Muscoviense, or the “Sea of Moscovia”.
A few months ago, Neeraj Kumar, a resident of Bodh Gaya, also ‘bought’ an acre piece of land on the Moon on his birthday, after taking inspiration from actors Shahrukh Khan and the late Sushant Singh Rajput.
