JAIPUR: After a relatively poor result in the recently concluded panchayat and zila parishad polls, the ruling Congress responded with a roar when the election results of 50 municipal bodies were announced on Sunday. While Congress won 619 of the 1,775 districts in 12 districts, the Independents came in second by winning 595 districts, while the BJP rivals had to settle for third by winning 549 districts.
Among other contenders, BSP won seven districts, CPM and CPI two each, and RLP one.
Reacting to the results, CM Ashok Gehlot He tweeted: “My sincere congratulations and best wishes to all the candidates who have won the municipal and municipal elections. I express my gratitude to the people of the state who placed their trust in the Congress Party, which led to their victory … ”
Rajasthan Congress President Govind singh Dotasra said his party should form its boards of directors in 41 municipal bodies, while the BJP is expected to form boards of directors in nine municipal entities. “BJP’s outright lies about extensive local body polls have been exposed once again. At the municipal polls, our party has won 619 seats, while the BJP only won 549 seats. In 17 bodies we are forming our boards without any support, while in the remaining 24 bodies we will form boards with the support of Independientes. Most of them were strategically deployed by us, ”Dotasra said.
BJP State President Satish Poonia said the results have run counter to Congress. “Both the BJP and the independents constitute more than 60% of the seats, which means that the mandate has gone against the Congress,” he said.
