The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a deputy inspector and three Mumbai police officers for allegedly accepting a Rs 2 lakh bribe for failing to arrest the father of a whistleblower, the Bureau’s chief official said on Wednesday.
The defendants were arrested red-handed at a hotel near the Jaipur train station on Tuesday night.
Those arrested are Sub-Inspector Prashant Shide and Police Officers Laxman, Subhash Pandurang and Sachin Ashok Gudke, stationed at the Borivali Police Station in Mumbai.
ACB Police Director General BL Soni said that Aman Sharma had complained that the four Mumbai police officers had come to his home looking for his tenant Vinod claiming that a fraud case had been filed against him at the station. Borivali police station.
While Vinod was not found at the home, the four police officers allegedly pressured Aman’s father to help them catch the tenant and threatened to arrest him instead if he did not please them. They also demanded a bribe of 2 lakh rupees not to arrest him.
Vinod, a cloth merchant, is a resident of Mumbai who had been living in Jaipur for some time.
After verification, the ACB team set a trap and arrested the accused policemen in a hotel near the train station.
