PUNE: Heavy rains and flooding have claimed at least 47 lives in Maharashtra’s Pune, Aurangabad and Konkan divisions in the past three days, while crops on thousands of hectares of hectares were severely damaged, authorities said Friday .
Twenty-eight people have died in rain-related incidents in western Maharashtra, which is under the Pune division, 16 in the Aurangabad division in central Maharashtra, and three on the Konkan coast, they said.

Crops such as sugar cane, soybeans, vegetables, rice, pomegranate and cotton, spread over 57,000 hectares in the districts of Pune, Solapur, Satara and Sangli, have suffered damage.

21,292 people from 6,061 households in the districts of Solapur (17,000), Sangli (1,079), Pune (3,000) and Satara (213) were transferred to safer places.
The death toll was 16 in the Aurangabad division and three in the Konkan division.
“Thirteen tehsils in the Aurangabad division had heavy rains, that is, more than 65mm in 24 hours, causing flooding and damage to houses and crops on 4.99,648 hectares,” said an official.
Crops of soybeans, bajara, corn, cotton, lentils, bananas, sunflowers and solids (black gram), among others, were damaged in the Aurangabad region, he said.
Crops of more than 1,36,176 hectares were damaged in Osmanabad district and 1,10,685 hectares in Nanded district between October 12 and 15, the official said.

In Konkan Division, 326 houses were damaged in Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts and five head of cattle were killed.
Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts have each reported one death in rain-related incidents.
The Vaibhavwadi tehsils in Sindhudurg and Karjat, Khalapur, Murud, Pen and Alibaug in Raigad received more than 100mm of rain in recent days, the official said.
