Heavy rains that hit Mumbai overnight caused flooding in many parts of the city, disrupting road and rail traffic.
Rains across the city increased Tuesday night. There were intense spells in Mumbai for a few hours overnight, an official said.
Public transport services were affected and normal life affected in the financial capital due to heavy rains and waterlogging this morning.
Several streets and low-lying areas were flooded due to night rains, and road traffic was also severely affected, a civic official said. Some vehicles broke down in the water and affected the movement of traffic, he added.
A Central Railway spokesman said suburban services were suspended at 5 a.m. Wednesday after heavy rains on the tracks.

Update | The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation declares a holiday for all private and government establishments, except emergency services, after severe waterlogging and heavy rains in many parts of the city. The commissioner has appeared in public to leave their homes only if necessary: BMC.
- Several parts of Mumbai received heavy rains on Tuesday night that caused flooding in some areas, including Sion and Goregaon.
- Passengers were stranded at the Sion train station in Mumbai due to flooding.
- According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Mumbai suburbs witnessed an actual rainfall of 23.4mm on Tuesday, a 129% deviation from normal rainfall.
- Suburban train services on the Central Railway have been affected due to continued heavy rains in various parts of Mumbai.
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Thane / Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Vashi services have been suspended.
