Rail Passenger Alert! IRCTC Announces New Changes to Ticket Reservations | Economy news

New Delhi: Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the ticketing division of Indian Railways, has made a minor change to the rules for reserving train tickets. Now, when booking tickets, passengers will need to provide their own mobile number as contact details. Indian Railways has taken this step in light of the growing number of ticket resellers and fake tickets surrounding the railways.

The measure also aims to reduce the resellers from which a few passengers buy their train. The new IRCTC rule about providing a passenger’s own contact number will be a deterrent for resellers.

Indian Railways has noted that because the tickets do not have the passenger numbers (those purchased from resellers or others’ IRCTC account), their number is not recorded in the passenger reservation system (PRS) due to passengers often don’t have it. receive SMS notifications on their mobile phones. Passengers in the notification also lose information about train cancellation or revision in a train’s schedule.
