Karnataka’s Congressional unit on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as an electoral weapon following the agency’s raids in multiple locations linked to state party leader DK Shivakumar and his brother. DK Suresh.
The IWC is conducting raids at 14 locations, including the residence of leaders and business establishments. Up to 60 CBI men are involved in the raids, police officials familiar with the matter said. Among the locations raided are the brothers’ premises in Bengaluru, Ramanagar, Kanakapura, Delhi and Mumbai.
“The CBI attack is the permanent electoral process of the BJP. The fear of the BJP to lose the by-elections. We condemn the IWC’s attack on hate politics, ”wrote the Karnataka Pradesh Congressional Committee on Twitter in Kannada.
The party’s main spokesman, Randeep Singh Surjewala, called the CBI a puppet of the Modi-Yeddyurappa duo and said the move will not deter them. “The insidious game of intimidation and machinations of the Modi-Yeddyurappa duo executed by a puppet CBI by assaulting @DKShivakumar will not stop us. CBI should unearth the layers of corruption in Yeddyurappa Govt. But, ‘Raid Raj’ is his only ‘Machiavellian Move’! “Surjewala tweeted.
In another tweet, he added that Modi and Yeddyurappa’s “devious attempts” will only strengthen the Congressional party’s determination to fight for the people and expose BJP’s “mismanagement”. “Let the front organizations of Modi & Yeddyurappa Govts & BJP, ie CBI-ED-Income Tax, know that the workers and leaders of Congress will not flinch or bow down to such devious attempts. Our determination to fight for the people and expose BJP mismanagement only grows stronger, ”he wrote.
Opposition leader and former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah also took to the microblogging site to criticize the CBI raids and accused the BJP of participating in the politics of vendetta. “@ BJP4India has always tried to indulge in vindictive politics and mislead the public’s attention. The latest CBI raid on @KPCCPresident @ DKShivakumar’s home is another attempt to derail our preparation for the by-elections. I strongly condemn it, ”he tweeted.
The Acting Chairman of the State Congress, Saleem Ahmed, told reporters: “Afraid of losing Sira and RR Nagar in the polls, BJP is resorting to these tactics. We will not be intimidated and we will fight this. “
Congress will hold a protest meeting at its headquarters in Bengaluru against CBI’s move on KPCC head Shivakumar.
