Rahul’s tractor rally to enter Haryana today; Strong police deployment on the Punjab border

Congressional leader Rahul Gandhi’s Kheti Bachao tractor rally against agricultural laws will enter Haryana from Punjab near Kyukar village of Pehowa subdivision of Kurukshetra district on Tuesday afternoon.

According to his schedule, Gandhi will lead a tour in Pehowa after entering Haryana. He plans to meet the farmers around 3pm. Gandhi is also expected to lead a tour to Kurukshetra and hold another meeting at a mandi there. There were reports that he will also stop at the village of Jyotisar where Lord Krishna is believed to have delivered the Bhagavad Gita sermon.

There has been a heavy police deployment on the Haryana-Punjab border before Gandhi’s arrival.

Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Sharandeep Kaur Barar said that guidelines have been issued for the rally organizers and that they must follow regulations related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said that there is no limit for tractors coming from Punjab, but they must strictly follow all the guidelines as it is forbidden to gather more than 100 people.

The Kurukshetra district administration has written to the head of the Harayana Congress, Kumari Selja, requesting his cooperation on 16 points to help maintain public order. He has asked Congress to limit gatherings to 100 people, ensure the use of masks and social distancing. The administration has told the party that tractors should not affect the movement of traffic on the Delhi-Chandigarh highway.

Gandhi’s schedule has been changed and he will not visit Karnal as scheduled.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Monday that the state government has no problem if Gandhi holds tractor rallies and road shows. He asked Congress to refrain from creating public order problems.

“It is not acceptable if you come to Haryana together with a large procession from Punjab. We have no problem with your visit if you hold your yatra together with the Haryana people, ”Khattar said when asked about the statement by Interior Minister Anil Vij that Gandhi will not be allowed to enter Haryana.
