Rahul’s “North-South” Comment: Top Congressional Leaders Raise Questions | India News

NEW DELHI: Rahul gandhi, who is under fire of opposition for praising the people of Kerala and comparing them to the voters of the north, he has now been attacked by the Congress leaders as well.
At least two senior congressional leaders have expressed reservations about Rahul’s comment.
Anand sharma Y Kapil sibal They have reacted sharply to Rahul’s “north-south” statement and wondered in what context the former head of Congress did so.
“For the first 15 years, I was a deputy in the north. I got used to a different kind of politics. For me, coming to Kerala was very refreshing, as I suddenly discovered that people are interested in issues not only superficially, but also they like to go into detail about the issues, “Rahul Gandhi had said Tuesday at an event to mark the conclusion of ‘Aishwarya Kerala Yatra’ in Kerala, bound for the polls.
When asked about the comments, Anand Sharma, who is the deputy leader of the party in Rajya Sabha, said that the former head of the party can clarify in what context he made the comments so that there is no guesswork or misunderstanding on the matter.
“When it comes to the Congress party, it never divided the country. We don’t believe in that. Every part of India is equally important. We respect that. Leaders from all regions have contributed to the freedom movement,” Sharma told the ANI news agency.
“We had front-line leaders in the fight for freedom: Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Govind Ballabh Pant, Lala Lajpat Rai, just to name a few. There is a long list. After independence there have been illustrious PMs. – Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, all represented the UP state. Recently, for 10 years, he was Dr. Manmohan Singh from North India, so the Congress has never failed him respect for a region. If we had a Prime Minister from the North or the South, that is not a problem, “he said.
Kapil Sibal, who has spoken about the situation in Congress, was sharper in his reaction.
Sibal stated that the “wisdom” of the country’s electors should be respected regardless of their location.
“I am no one to comment on what he said. He said it and he can explain in what context he said … We must respect the voters in the country and not denigrate their wisdom … They know who to vote for and why,”, Sibal told the ANI news agency.
However, Sibal also criticized the responses of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders to Rahul Gandhi’s comments, saying it is “ridiculous” that they are accusing Congress of trying to divide the country.
“It is ridiculous that the BJP is saying that Congress is trying to divide the country. This is a government that has divided the people since it came to power in 2014,” Sibal said.
Sibal and Sharma are part of the group of senior leaders in Congress who have been raising questions about the inner workings of the party.
‘Rahul should apologize’
Rebel Congress MLA Aditi Singh apologized to Rahul Gandhi for his “MP in the north” comment, stating that it is wrong to disparage the former electorate.
“Rahul Gandhi made a wrong statement. Perhaps he had good intentions and did not want to project it like that, but it is wrong to belittle his former constituency while praising the current one,” said Aditi Singh.
Further condemning Rahul’s statement, Aditi Singh said: “You say that other parties divide, but you yourself speak of divisions. You say those things about Amethi, a constituency that taught you the ABCs of politics. That is where your ancestors They received respect and victories and from where he came to Delhi. ”
He stated that as North India, what hurts him the most is that “he does not want anyone in the country to talk about the differences between the north and the south.”
“This was a very incorrect statement. We are a nation. Humans make mistakes, but he should apologize to the people of Amethi and the people of the north,” he added.
BJP leaders also criticized Rahul for comments “comparing” his current constituency in the Wayanad parliament to his previous seat in Amethi.
They also accused him of creating a “north-south” divide.
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar called the opposition leader “superficial” and said that “insulting Indians” was Rahul Gandhi’s “favorite pastime”.
