Congressional Leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday attacked Yogi Adityanath’s dispensation over the death of a Dalit woman from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh after she was allegedly gang-raped, saying the chief minister and his police say no one he was raped because for them and many other Indians, she was “nobody.” In a tweet, Gandhi said the shameful truth is that many Indians do not consider Dalits, Muslims and tribes to be human.
“The CM and its police say that no one was raped because for them, and for many other indigenous people, she was NOBODY,” the former head of Congress tweeted. He also tagged a media report asking why the police denied the rape when the woman repeatedly reported the rape.
A 19-year-old Dalit woman from Hathras was allegedly raped and attacked by four upper caste men. He later succumbed to injuries in a Delhi hospital. Yogi Adityanath’s government is fighting severe criticism for its handling of the case, particularly after local police burned the woman’s body overnight without the family’s approval. However, officials said the cremation was carried out “according to the wishes of the family.”

The state government has said that some people were trying to foment caste tensions after the incident. Citing a report from the FSL (forensic science laboratory), he has denied the rape charge. The Center has issued a notice for the IWC to take over the investigation into the alleged gang rape and death of the 19-year-old woman, authorities said Saturday.
