The Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, mourned the death of former President Pranab Mukherjee, who was the man of all seasons for Congress for decades before moving to Rashtrapati Bhavan in 2012. Congress tweeted its condolences for the leader, who was known to be the premier problem solver, problem solver and go-to person since the days of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Later in the evening, Acting Head of Congress Sonia Gandhi wrote to Mukherjee’s daughter, Sharmistha Mukherjee, saying it was “hard to imagine how we can do it without her wisdom, experience, sage advice and deep knowledge on so many issues.”
Mukherjee, who rose to fame as a minister in Indira Gandhi’s cabinet, was known for his in-depth knowledge of Indian politics, economic policies, and strategic issues.
But after the assassination of Indira Gandhi, the man considered by many to be a candidate for the post of prime minister, had lost favor with Rajiv Gandhi. Expelled In 1986, he formed his own party. But the dispute was brief, and Mukherjee rejoined Congress six years later.
As the greatest statesman in Indian politics, he had earned respect across the board and last year the BJP-led government awarded him the Bharat Ratna award.
