New Delhi:

Congressional MP Rahul Gandhi continued his relentless attack on the Narendra Modi government on Monday night with a tweet criticizing “unnecessary privatization … (which) is destroying jobs” for the nation’s youth.

Gandhi, who has stepped up his criticism after last week’s data showed that India’s GDP contracted by a record 23.9 percent between April and June, reiterated his belief that unemployment levels were related with the Modi government’s campaign to privatize the PSUs (public sector units).

“Today the country faces many disasters, such as the Modi government, one of which is unnecessary privatization. Young people want jobs, but the Modi government is destroying jobs and depositing capital by privatizing PSUs … (¿ a) Whose benefit? ”Mr. Gandhi tweeted.

“(for the) development of a few ‘friends’ … which is ModiHee“It’s special … Stop privatization, save government jobs,” he added.

On Saturday, Mr. Gandhi tweeted about a reported recruitment freeze by the central government; He cited a newspaper article referring to a list of austerity measures taken amid the pandemic.

“The thought of the Modi government is minimal government, maximum privatization. Covid is just an excuse …”, he tweeted, claiming that “the plan is to free the government offices of all permanent staff, steal the future of young people and boost his (PM Modi) own friends forward. “

Later, the center clarified its position; The Finance Ministry tweeted that the government circular referenced in the report dealt with internal procedures and would not affect or restrict hiring.

Mr. Gandhi has also previously attacked the government over employment levels and privatization.

Last week he criticized reports that 12 million people were unemployed amid the shutdown and, earlier last month, said the government had failed to deliver on its promise of jobs for two million people each year.

In July he criticized the government for the first steps in the privatization of the Indian railways, which employs around 12 lakh people.

Gandhi has also posted videos claiming demonetization, Covid lockdown and controversial GST are among the main reasons for the condition of the Indian economy.

Yesterday he tweeted a video in which he sought to link the record 23.9 percent contraction of GDP to the GST regime, which he referred to as the “Gabbar Singh Tax“.

In an earlier video, Gandhi linked the impact of GDP to demonetization, tweeting: “Prime Minister Modi’s cashless India is actually a mazdoor-kisan-chhota vyapari mukt Bharat (India free of farmers, workers, small traders) “.

After the release of the GDP figures, Gandhi lashed out at the government, accusing it of repeatedly ignoring warnings from experts about the extent of the economic crisis.
