AMETHI: The Union Minister, Smriti Irani, launched a scathing attack in Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday, accusing him of “lying and cheating” farmers about the recent farm laws.
Addressing a farmers’ rally in his Amethi parliamentary constituency, Irani said: “Rahul Gandhi is telling lies and deceiving the farmers. He is shedding crocodile tears for the farmers and deceiving them, his own jija (brother-in-law) has invaded the land of the farmers “.
Iran’s attack on Gandhi comes amid protests by farmers at various border points in Delhi against the Center’s recent farm laws.
In challenging Gandhi for a debate on farmers’ issues, Irani asked him to come among the farmers here and claimed that he would expose him for every sin committed by him.
The Union minister addressed the rally in the Singhpur bloc in Tiloi as part of a mega exercise by the BJP to reach out to farmers as prime minister. Irani said that Gandhi, whom he defeated in the last parliamentary elections, now shows sympathy for the farmers, but has himself “seized” the farmers’ land.

Irani alleged that the Gandhi family did not think about Amethi’s development after winning the elections.
He also listed various development works undertaken after the BJP formed the government in Delhi.
