New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has misled the country about China’s “invasion” of Ladakh, Congressional MP Rahul Gandhi tweeted on Tuesday after Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, in a statement in parliament, claimed that the country’s South Asia “does not recognize the current limit (Line of Actual Control)” and had tried to transgress it. “Don’t be afraid to take the name of China,” Gandhi wrote.
“It is clear from the statement of the Minister of Defense that Modi Hee it has misled the country about invading China. Our country has always joined the Indian Army and will do so in the future. But Modi HeeWhen will you face China? When will you get our land back? Don’t be afraid to take the name of China, “he tweeted in Hindi.
Mr. Gandhi has been attacking the Center and Prime Minister Modi for their handling of the confrontation with China, which it had transgressed along LAC – the factor border – in May.
Today’s congressional leader’s attack was in reference to a comment Prime Minister Modi had made at an all-party meeting in June, days after 20 Indian soldiers sacrificed their lives in the line of duty in a clash with Chinese troops. “There is no one within our territory and none of our posts are captured,” Prime Minister Modi had said.
Gandhi, the former head of Congress, has often claimed that Prime Minister Modi is afraid of the Chinese.
Singh, who met with his Chinese counterpart in Moscow last week, gave details of the meeting in parliament on Tuesday. He said he made it clear that India wants to solve this problem peacefully and “wants the Chinese side to work with us.” But “there should also be no doubt about our determination to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India,” he said.
China continues to illegally occupy approximately 38,000 square kilometers in the Ladakh Union Territory, he said, adding that the county is prepared for all contingencies.
He also added that China had made several attempts to transgress LAC in other parts of the western sector in mid-May.
There have been several rounds of talks at the military and ministerial level with China on the situation in LAC. The only measure taken by the Chinese side to ease the tension was its partial withdrawal from the Galwan Valley, the site of the June clash, and some other areas.
Earlier this month, China tried to approach Indian positions on the southern shore of Ladakh’s Pangong Lake and fired into the air. The Indian forces thwarted the attempt.
