Thousands of flood relief food kits provided by Wayanad (North Kerala) Congressman Rahul Gandhi were found abandoned in an empty shop in Nilambur in Malappuram district.
The “criminal waste” drew widespread criticism from many quarters, including local residents and left-wing leaders. The embarrassed president of the district congress, VV Prakash, has ordered an investigation into the incident. Rotten food kits bearing the photo of Gandhi and MP printed in bold were found when an empty store opened that was closed for many months.
“We have no idea how it happened. It is really unfortunate. But those responsible will not be saved, ”said the president of DCC, adding that he also informed the state leadership about this.
Wayanad had witnessed numerous landslides after heavy rains during the last monsoon. The congressional leader who emerged victorious from the seat in the 2019 election responded quickly and was quick to send enough food packages to his constituency. A truck loaded with such food kits was found abandoned on Wednesday.
Subsequently, CPI (M) workers held a protest rally in the area claiming that congressional leaders did it deliberately. “Many of those shipments were lying and rotting in many places. It is criminal negligence. These kits were intended for poor people affected by the floods. It exposes the callous attitude of the leaders of the local Congress. I hope Rahul Gandhi realizes this, ”said Nilambur MLA PV Anwar. A local resident said that most of the kits were rotten and some had worms.
