He was accompanied on the tractor by the President of the Punjab Congress, Sunil Jakhar, and the party leader, Harish Rawat.
Several congressional workers accompanied Gandhi from the Patiala district of Punjab, but the procession stopped on the road near the village of Teokar on the Pehowa border for an hour.
