Party court deputies Aam Aadmi, Raghav Chadha and Atishi, were detained Sunday morning by Delhi police ahead of a planned party protest in front of the home of Interior Minister Amit Shah and Anil Baijal for a alleged embezzlement of funds by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
The party’s request to organize dharnas was rejected by the Delhi police due to covid-19 protocols. DCP (New Delhi) Eish Singhal said: “In view of the DDMA guidelines, all public gatherings are prohibited to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Additionally, section 144 of the CrPC has been in effect in the New Delhi district. We have considered the request (AAP) but rejected it. “
AAP MLA Atishi and some party councilors arrived at the LG residence and were not allowed to cross the barricades. They resorted to chanting slogans demanding a CBI investigation into the case, after which they were detained by the police.

Chadha, however, questioned why BJP leaders can protest in front of the residence of Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The mayor of the municipal corporation, along with other members of the BJP, have been protesting in front of CM’s house for a week, demanding funds they say they are owed. “BJP leaders have been protesting in front of CM’s house for several days. It seems that Section 144 and the guidelines for the pandemic do not apply to them, ”said Chadha.

On Friday, Health Minister Satyendar Jain had alleged in a press conference that the North MCD had misappropriated funds of Rs 2.4 billion given by the Southern DCM – a claim that the Northern DCM mayor had denied. The Delhi government has ordered an investigation into the matter.

Atishi said: “We demand that there be a CBI investigation for this loss in the public purse. There must be strict action against the culprits, because it is with this Rs 2400 crore that doctors, staff, nurses, teachers, our Covid warriors could have received salaries. We will continue the sit-in until a CBI investigation is ordered on the matter. “
