Puri District Collector Balwant Singh said on Tuesday that a servant of Puri Jagannath temple has tested positive for coronavirus. The news came amid the ongoing Rath Yatra in Puri after the Supreme Court partially imposed its full ban on the festival at the request of the Center and Odisha.
Ahead of Rath Yatra, coronavirus tests of 1,143 sevadars were conducted on Monday as directed by the Supreme Court. All except one, were found to be negative.
Puri district administration said in a tweet, “The confirmed case has been shifted to Kovid Hospital before the Rath Yatra rituals. The contact is being traced and the area has been encapsulated.”
Servants will be allowed to participate in the festivities and pull the chariot only if they have tested negative.
