Punjab on Sunday reported the sharpest spike in a single day of 1,946 new coronavirus cases, bringing the state’s COVID-19 count to 63,473.
The previous record for new cases reported in one day was 1,746 on August 27.
Fifty-four more deaths from COVID-19 rose to 1,862 in the state, according to a government medical bulletin.
Thirteen deaths were reported in Ludhiana, eight in Patiala, six in Kapurthala, five in Amritsar, three in Faridkot, Moga, Jalandhar and Bathinda, two in Pathankot, Muktsar and Hoshiarpur and one in Barnala, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran. He said.
Among the places that reported new cases were Jalandhar (261), Pathankot (205), Gurdaspur (186), Bathinda (168), Ludhiana (161), Mohali (154), Patiala (150), Hoshiarpur (135), Amritsar (133) and Faridkot (88).
Punjab has seen an increase in the number of coronavirus cases and has added more than 1,000 coronavirus cases every day for a few days.
A total of 1,606 coronavirus patients were discharged from various locations, including Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Mohali, Sangrur, Bathinda, Pathankot and Hoshiarpur, after recovering from the infection.
So far, 45,455 people have been cured of the contagion.
There are 16,156 active cases of Covid-19 in the state, as of now, according to the bulletin.
Seventy-one critically ill patients receive respiratory support, while 571 receive oxygen, according to the bulletin.
So far a total of 11,93,260 samples have been collected for testing in the state, he said. – PTI
