The 28-year-old and his older brother Harvinder Singh visited agitated farmers on the Singhu border in Delhi and expressed his solidarity.
“I went there to show my support to all the elderly, who are peacefully protesting in this biting cold. It is heartbreaking to see the conditions they are living in,” Mandeep told TOI from the Singhu border.
“The tractors have become their new home, but they are not complaining. They are very happy and cheerful. I salute their spirit. It was a humbling experience for me. The whole country is based on the work of farmers, and the problem must It will be resolved as soon as possible, “he added.
Mandeep had recently lost his father (late Sardar Hardev Singh) while in Dubai playing for Kings XI Punjab at Indian Premier League. The wrestling cricketer did not fly back and a couple of days later paid a moving tribute to his late father by playing a match-winning 66 stroke, not against Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah.
“If my father had been alive, he would have joined the protest as well. He must be a proud father because his children did their bit,” Mandeep said excitedly.
Mandeep, who has represented India at three T20 Internationals, says he was surprised to see the amount of support pouring in from different quarters.
“I have never experienced anything like this in my entire life. It was satisfying for the soul. It has moved me. I hope that the government hears your demand and that everyone returns to their loved ones,” he concluded with the appeal.
