Chandigarh: A Punjab farmer on Tuesday objected to the BJP’s alleged use of his photograph to express that the minimum support price (MSP) will continue, saying that he himself was part of the farmers’ protest against the three farm laws.
A poster with a photo of Harpreet Singh appeared on Punjab BJP’s Facebook page. After an uproar, the poster was removed.
“The Punjab BJP used my photo on their Facebook page,” Singh said, adding that it was an old photograph taken 6-7 years ago.
“I’m sitting on the Singhu border,” he said, adding that the BJP used his photo without asking for his permission.
“What they have done is wrong,” Singh said on his Facebook page. “Nobody is happy with these bills (agricultural laws). The BJP-led government should come to the Singhu border and see for itself which farmer is in favor of these laws, ”he said.
He said farmers were quite angry about the newly enacted farm laws.
Singh, who is from the Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, said farmers had been speaking out against these agricultural laws that the government said were in the interest of the farming community.
“We (the farmers) will return only after these laws are repealed,” Singh said.
Meanwhile, when asked about the use of the farmer’s photograph, the head of the Punjab BJP, Ashwani Sharma, said he had also found out and would investigate the matter.
