PUNE: except hospitals and clinics, all emergency services and essential goods and distribution in 69 containment areas of Pune Municipal Corporation The limits will be closed from midnight on Monday (May 11) until May 17.
Pune municipal commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad approved an order to this effect on Sunday night, claiming that the decision was prompted by the continued violation of social distancing rules in essential stores, which were allowed to operate in the areas containment between 10 am and 2 pm from May 3. .
“The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the police will monitor arrangements for home delivery of essential items such as milk and vegetables or will make the same available in larger open and spacious places in the areas as required,” said the order.
The PMC has declared a total of 69 containment zones _ mainly the central parts or areas of peth, the slums and some densely populated localities that are most affected by the COVID-19 contagion. Civic officials noted that 80% of the city’s 2,400 positive nCov cases have been reported from these 69 containment areas. Up to 1,900 odd cases come from these areas, which have been sealed since May 3.
A civic official said, “Our constantly moving survey teams in containment areas and our strategically located ambulances will play a role in providing emergency services. Similarly, at all entry points in the containment areas, a police officer and a PMC representative will be stationed to assist with home delivery. People can approach their closest entry point in case of need for delivery of essential items. Neighborhood offices and the local corporate can also be contacted for help. ”
The PMC had declared some areas of the city as containment zones on April 6. These areas included Peth areas from Maharshi Nagar to RTO and parts of Kondhwa. On April 13 more areas were added in these zones: Shivajinagar, Parvati, parts of Kondhwa, Ahmednagar Road, Satara Road and Yerawada. On April 20, the entire city was declared a containment zone. Restrictions were applied to the movements of people and vehicles.
The city’s containment zones were reduced to just 3 percent of the city’s total area on May 3. The other areas became red zones (non-containment areas), giving residents mobility. The civic administration decided to open the stores in the non-containment areas as of May 6. Stores in the red light district were opened between 7 am and 7 pm, all were essential stores and five non-essential stores by 1 km areas.
The stores with essential items in the 69 containment areas remained open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Even those have been closed since Monday, until the next order.
