PUBG Mobile India and its legions of fans have apparently been counting for days, with numerous reports in the meantime suggesting that the game may be relaunched in India any day. However, these reports have been handily proven incorrect, and there has been very little official confirmation from the company, in terms of when the game will launch in India. Continuing with last week’s update where reports stated that there have been no official indications regarding the authorization of PUBG Mobile India for a relaunch in the country, a new report cites internal company sources, who have stated that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is yet to respond to the company’s request for a meeting seeking authorization for the game to operate in India.
Sources have further stated that PUBG Mobile India promoters are “ready to comply with all the standards set by the Indian government”, and now await formal approval from MeitY to operate in India again. PUBG Mobile, along with PUBG Mobile Lite, was banned in India in September 2020 due to its ties to China. The latter occurred because PUBG Mobile was backed by the Chinese tech giant Tencent Gaming. Since the ban, PUBG Corp has isolated the game’s operations in India from Tencent as its distribution partner, and has also established its official subsidiary in India, PUBG India, showing a greater intention to become operational in India again.
Reports now claim that PUBG officials in India have “repeatedly requested” ministry officials to arrange a meeting with the company as they hope to alleviate any prior concerns that the game is linked to Chinese servers. It is important to note that the Indian government has yet to issue the authorization for any of the 267 banned Chinese apps to operate in India again. The reason behind this is concerns about Chinese infiltration into Indian cyberspace, due to which popular apps like TikTok, PUBG Mobile, AliExpress, CamScanner, Shareit and others have so far faced the ax.
