The PUBG ban comes as a shock to many young people who were addicted (and not just hooked) to mobile gaming. PUBG is among 118 Chinese apps that were included in the last one imposed by the Center on Wednesday. The game has been immensely popular in India. In fact, about 25% of PUBG’s entire global player base came from India, and online analytics firm SensorTower confirmed in numbers over the summer that PUBG has seen more than 175 million game installs in India.

The PUBG Mobile community has spawned professional gamers, including several competitive teams from India representing the country in various tournaments and competitions globally. PUBG Mobile has also boosted the live game streaming industry in India with a host of content creators making good money. A little more about what the ban potentially means for more serious players.

The popularity of the game was also high among Indian cricketers. In fact, a viral image shared by BCCI in 2018 showed that except for Jasprit Singh Bumrah, the men in blue loved the game.

Captain cool, in fact, led the men in blue for his love for PUBG. Here are some Indian cricketers who must be waving a tearful goodbye to the game.

MS Dhoni:

Captain Cool, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket, has been a fervent fan of the game. He is known as one of the first members of the Indian cricket team to download the game. But it was Kedar Jadhav who brought Dhoni into the game during the Indian Premier League (IPL) tenure with Chennai Super Kings.

Dhoni has been known as an aggressive player and loves to hunt down opponents. But hey, Dhoni’s love for PUBG has faded into the lockdown and he’s now hooked on the classic Call of Duty video game.

Kedar Jadhav:

All-rounder Kedar Jadhav is the man credited with introducing the best players from the Indian team, including Dhoni, into the Battle Royale game. On the PUBG server, you are known to your teammates as the ‘game leader’ for the number of hours you have spent in the game. Remember when you used to play in groups and one person would indicate where to drop? For fellow Indian cricket team, that voice was from Jadhav, who even inspired other payers like Shami. According to a report, Jadhav has been a guide to the game and based on his advice, members like Shikhar Dhawan and Yuzvendra Chahal bought better screen pads to play PUBG only.

Yuzvendra chahal

If the sources are to be believed, Chahal was the most active PUBG player only after Jadhav. He also returned to the game in early 2018. In fact, he is one of many players who got caught up in the game while waiting for their flight at an airport. The only one who seemed to wonder why everyone is clinging to phones was Jasprit Sigh Bumrah. We feel you, Bumrah! He was known for playing on Jadhav’s team. The height of the gambling addiction was such that if the duo were not assigned the same room during the tours, they would go to the hotel lobby to play at night. I hope you find an alternative to your favorite game soon.

Mohammad Shami:

Spinner Shami is another Indian cricketer who was introduced to the game by Jadhav, although he is among the last to join the team’s PUG squad. Reports say that Shami had played the game with his brothers, but did not join his teammates for some time. But thanks to Jadhav who made him join as well. The fact that he used to pay with his brothers gave him an advantage when he started playing with the men in blue. He even had a tab to play with and was known for his sniper expertise.

Shikhar Dhawan:

Starter Shikhar Dhawan started playing PUBG as Shami in late 2018 and is known to have played with his wife as well. Dhawan, Chahal, Jadhav and Shami are among the best players seen playing while waiting for their flights during cricket tours.

Manish pandey

Manish Pandey was named a PUBG fan by his partner Kudleep Yadav, who also revealed Dhoni, Jadhav, and Chahal’s love for the game. Pandey is a mid-level hitter and plays for the Hyderabad Sunrisers in the IPL.

Deepak Chahar:

Finally, the man who revealed about Dhoni’s fading interest in PUBG during the shutdown and his newfound love for Call of Duty. In early April, Chahar said that for him PUBG was still his favorite game. Seamer Deepak Chahar became the center of attention playing for CSK in the IPL with Dhoni and made his international debut in a T20 match against England in 2018.
