PSLV-C49, carrying India’s Earth observation satellite and nine others, takes off from Sriharikota


The Indian Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) -C49 carrying the EOS all-weather Earth-imaging satellite of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) along with nine international satellites was launched from the Satish Space Center Dhawan in Sriharikota on Saturday afternoon.

The launch was scheduled for 3:02 p.m. IST today, but the mission director authorized the launch of PSLV-C49 at 3:12 p.m. (3:12 p.m.) due to bad weather.

The countdown to the launch of the EOS-01 began on November 6.

The EOS-01 was successfully separated from the fourth stage of the PSLV-C49 and injected into orbit, ISRO said.

What is EOS-01?

EOS-01 is an earth observation satellite designed for applications in agriculture, forestry and disaster management support.

The space agency said the customer’s satellites are being launched under a commercial agreement with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), Department of Space.

Fuel filling for the second stage (PS2), fourth stage (PS4) and oxidant for the fourth stage (PS4) of the PSLV-C49 has been completed, ISRO reported on Twitter.

Due to the new coronavirus pandemic, the launch viewing gallery was closed during the satellite launch and no meeting of media staff was allowed at SDSC.
