PSL 2020: Karachi Kings beat Multan Sultans in super over for a place in the final – cricket


Fast pitcher Mohammad Amir led the Karachi Kings to their first Pakistan Super League final with a super over victory against table leader Multan Sultans on Saturday. Multan faces Peshawar Zalmi or Lahore Qalandars on Sunday for another shot at next Tuesday’s final.

Amir gave away just nine runs in the super over throwing brilliant yorkers at South African Rilee Rossouw and Englishman Ravi Bopara.

Sherfane Rutherford of the West Indies had crushed Sohail Tanvir by a six and a four, ultimately leading Karachi to 13-2 in the super final.

Karachi captain Imad Wasim’s undefeated 27 pushed the game into the super over with the last ball as he tossed fast pitcher Mohammad Ilyas to the limit of the square leg for a four as the hosts finished at 141-8.

Karachi had restricted Multan at 141-7 after Wasim won the draw and opted to line up first with Bopara achieving a maximum score of 40.

“A special credit to Amir (for the super change), for me he is one of the best bowlers in the world. I want to dedicate this victory to Dean Jones. If I was here I would have been very happy. We are going to play the final for Deano again, ”Wasim said.

The Karachi players wore black armbands in memory of Jones, their last coach. Both teams got into a ‘D’ shape to honor the former Australian hitter.

Multan made a surprising comeback during regulation game of 20 excess via Tanvir’s double strike (3-25) in the 17th.

Pakistan’s all-format captain Babar Azam (65 on 53 balls) scored half a century and had Karachi in control at 116-3 before Tanvir caught him behind.

The PSL playoffs resumed after they were suspended eight months ago due to the coronavirus pandemic.
