AMRITSAR: For the first time, Pakistan’s Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) has lost management of any Gurdwara in Pakistan after the Pakistan Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) established a Project Management Unit (PMU), Corridor Kartapur and handed over the management and maintenance of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur Sahib to Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB)
According to a notification issued on November 3, following approval by the Cabinet Economic Coordination Committee, the MoRA had created the PMU Kartapur Sahib, which will be a self-funded body for the management and maintenance of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur Sahib under the administrative direction ETPB control.
According to sources, the ETPB has appointed up to nine officials and staff members of the newly created PMU Kartarpur Sahib without any Sikhs.
While confirming the same, ETPB spokesmen Amir Hashmi informed TOI on Wednesday that Tariq Khan, ETPB’s additional secretary, had been assigned to PMU Kartapur Sahib as chief executive officer (CEO).
This is reportedly the first gurdwara in Pakistan whose control, management and maintenance will no longer be under the direction of PSGPC but of ETPB.
“PMU Kartapur Corridor will help us further develop the Kartarpur and Gurdwara corridor and provide more facilities for the yatrees,” said ETPB President Aamar Ahamd, who also appealed to the Indian government to allow Sikh yatrees Indians undertake the day-long Kartarpur pilgrimage which was suspended to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
