Paris Saint-Germain ‘plays hard on Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappe as French giants would rather let the star go on a free transfer in 2022 than sell it for less than its value in 2021’
- PSG striker Kylian Mbappe has been a long-term goal for Real Madrid
- The 21-year Paris-Saint Germain contract expires in the summer of 2022
- The French giants signed Mbappe from Monaco for £ 166 million in August 2017
Paris Saint-Germain is digging heels on Kylian Mbappe while continuing to tie in with a move to Real Madrid.
The striker has been a long-term goal for the Real as they search for their next ‘galactic’ in the post-Cristiano Ronaldo era.
And according to the Spanish newspaper AS, PSG would rather keep its asset until its contract expires rather than sell it below its transfer value.

AS reports that PSG would rather lose it in a free transfer in 2022 than sell it cheaply in 2021
Mbappe’s contract runs out in the summer of 2022 and the French giants are determined to stay with him until then, unless a substantial offer is received for the winner of the French World Cup. They signed it for £ 166 million from Monaco in August 2017.
They report that due to the coronavirus pandemic, Real has accepted that it is almost impossible to sign Mbappe this summer and has therefore committed a coup next summer.
An offer in 2021 makes more economic sense for Real, as they could potentially sign the 21-year-old for less than this summer, since by then he would only have one year left on his contract.
But any hope Real may have of doing so will be crushed by PSG sporting director Leonardo, who is clear that he would prefer Mbappe to stay an extra season and not leave for nothing more than selling it cheaply.
Mbappe is enjoying another brilliant season at Parc des Princes, having scored 29 goals in 32 games in all competitions before the campaign was halted due to Covid-19.
