‘Proud of you’: Rajnath Singh congratulates DRDO on successfully testing anti-tank missile firing

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday congratulated the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) for successfully testing firing its laser-guided anti-tank missile (ATGM).

“Congratulations to @DRDO_India for successfully conducting the MBT Arjun laser guided anti-tank guided missile test firing at KK Ranges (ACC & S) in Ahmednagar. India is proud of the DRDO team, who are working assiduously to reduce dependence on imports in the near future, ”Singh tweeted.

Previously, DRDO announced that it had successfully tested the missile at the Armored Corps Center and School (ACC&S) in Ahmednagar on Tuesday. The agency further said that in these tests, the missiles, fired from the MBT Arjun tank, successfully defeated a target three kilometers away.

On various characteristics of the missile, DRDO said ATGM employs a HEAT warhead in tandem to defeat explosive rear armor (ERA) protected vehicles. “The missile has been developed with multiplatform launch capability and is currently undergoing technical evaluation tests with a weapon from MBT Arjun,” the agency explained.

ATGM has been developed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune, in association with High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune, and Instruments Research & Development Establishment (IRDE), Dehradun.

Also Tuesday, DRDO had successfully conducted a flight test of high speed expandable air target (HEAT) ABHYAS vehicles from a test range in Balasore, Odisha.
