Railroad Board Chairman and CEO RK Yadav said on Saturday that protesting farmers had not yet left the train tracks, platforms and circulation areas near train stations.

There were 22 such places in the state and the Punjab government had to give security clearance before operations could resume, he said. The tracks that were unoccupied on Friday are under maintenance and inspection.

Amid the blockades, coal rakes and supplies of fertilizers and essentials for the troops in Jammu Kashmir have been withheld.

The Punjab government said on Friday that the tracks were open for freight trains, Yadav said. “It is operationally unfeasible for the railways to work like this. What type of trains can circulate on a track is the decision of the Railways ”, he said.

Services had to be resumed for all operations, Yadav told a virtual press conference. He said that Railways was trying to find a solution with the Punjab government.

Meanwhile, protesters have been hinting that they will stop passenger trains and allow only freight trains.

“Agitators have tried to dictate which goods can be lifted and which stations can be repaired. Railways cannot operate like this. We have been in contact with the state government since October 24, ”Yadav added.
