Farmers protesting Wednesday announced a four-hour blockade of trains across the country on February 18 as part of a new strategy to intensify their agitation against the new farm laws.
Revealing its plans for the month, Samyukt Kisan Morcha, the umbrella organization for agricultural unions, said it will make all road squares in Rajasthan free on February 12.
“On February 14, a march with candles and torches will be held across the country to commemorate the sacrifice of martyred soldiers in the Pulwama attack,” read a statement issued by SKM’s Darshan Pal.

Two days later, farmers will also hold events in a show of solidarity on the anniversary of the birth of Sir Chhotu Ram, one of the most prominent farmer leaders before the partition. “On February 18 a Rail Roko program will be held from 12 to 4 pm across the country,” said Darshan Pal, who is also president of the Krantikari Kisan Union.
In a video posted on Kisan Ekta Morcha’s Facebook page, Vikas Sisar, Haryana President of Bharatiya Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, said: “The most important decision we made at today’s gathering was to remember the Pulwama martyrs for the good of deceased souls. There will be candlelight marches in our towns and other places, wherever possible, from 7 to 8 pm on February 14 to show the country that the true Malik are the Jawans and Kisans. “
