New Delhi:
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri attacked Rahul Gandhi today for images showing the congressional leader sitting in what appear to be padded seats on a tractor during a demonstration in Punjab to protest the center’s controversial agricultural laws.
Puri, who is the Minister of Civil Aviation, tweeted “cushioned couches on tractors are not a protest” and repeated the BJP line: that the Congress “protest” is an attempt to “fool our farmers.”
“The ‘protest’ launched by Congress is a political protest by those whose vested interests are harmed by farm laws. Padded couches on tractors are not a protest … it is ‘protest tourism’ to confuse our farmers, who are educated and smart enough to see through this facade, “Puri tweeted.

On Sunday, Gandhi launched a three-day tractor rally in Moga, Punjab, to protest against laws related to agriculture that farmers fear will deprive them of a minimum price of living and of government purchase of their produce and produce. They will expose to exploitation by private companies.
“Their sole objective (of the BJP) is to destroy the MSP and the purchase of food. The country knows that farmers in India, farmers in Punjab and Haryana cannot survive without MSP. Congress will never allow this government to do so.” Said yesterday. .
Footage from the rally showed Gandhi sitting on what looked like cream cushions, next to the tractor driver, while Punjab’s chief minister, Amarinder Singh, sat on the other side.
Lakhs of farmers across the country, and particularly in Punjab and Haryana, have taken to the streets and blocked roads and railways to highlight their discontent with the legislation.
The government has claimed that the new laws, passed last month amid uproar in parliament, will help farmers by allowing them to sell their produce at markets and at prices they choose.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made several verbal assurances that neither the MSP nor public procurement will stop, but farmers remain unconvinced.
Meanwhile, in another tweet earlier today, Puri also criticized Congress for the burning of a tractor near the India Gate in central Delhi last week during a protest over farm laws, for which he claimed responsibility. the Punjab Youth Congress.
“When the reported criticism hits the mark, an attempt is made to shoot the messenger. Anyone who knows our farmers will know that farmers who work hard on their land will never burn their tractor. The tractor was not burned by farmers, it was burned by thugs. of Congress, “he said.
