However, the relief will be available only to the national category of taxpayers up to ₹ 15,000 in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and ₹ 10,000 in 141 municipalities throughout the state.
The Telangana government cut the property tax for the current year by 50% on Saturday for the urban population of the state that endured the brunt of COVID-19, as a Diwali gift from the Chief Minister.
However, the relief will be available only to the national category of taxpayers up to Rs 15,000 in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Rs 10,000 in 141 municipalities across the state. The payments already made will be in line with demand that will rise next year, said Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao.
Revealing the decision taken in this regard at yesterday’s cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the minister told a press conference that some 13.72 lakh from homeowners in GHMC and another 17.68 lakh of 141 municipalities will benefit from the measure. Relief at GHMC will amount to ₹ 196.48 crore and ₹ 130 crore in municipalities, adding ₹. 326.48 million rupees.
By other decisions, citizens of Hyderabad and 15 adjoining municipalities that did not receive the ₹ 10,000 flood relief announced by the state government have had one more opportunity to access the money through Mee Seva centers. They can apply online at the centers by paying Rs. 20 and the money will be delivered to your door by officials or deposited in banks if they provided their account numbers.
So far, the Government has disbursed Rs 470 million of the budgeted Rs 550 million to families of Rs 4.75 million intended to help people affected by recent rains and flooding of houses in Hyderabad.
As a Diwali gift to sanitation workers in recognition of their services during the times of COVID-19, the Government raised their salary from Rs 14,500 to Rs 17,500 a month. This is the third improvement for them since the formation of the State of Telangana; First made in 2015 from ₹ 8,500 to ₹ 12,500 and again in 2017 from ₹ 12,500 to ₹ 14,500, Rama Rao said.
