Our land connection will end the propaganda that is spreading about reforms, he said.
Modi said that small and marginal farmers, who make up 85 percent of the peasant community, will be the ones who will benefit the most from these reforms which, he added, give them the option to sell their products outside of ‘mandis’ agriculture at a best price.
Attacking Congress, which has been trying to mount protests across the country against these bills, Modi said hollow slogans have been given in favor of farmers and workers for many decades since Independence and the governments in the Center and the states.
All the farmers and workers got was a tangle of promises and laws, he said.
Modi said that those who always lied to farmers are now “shooting from their shoulders” and deceiving them.
“They are spreading rumors. Saving farmers from such rumors and explaining the importance of agricultural reforms is the responsibility and duty of all BJP workers because we have to make the future of farmers bright,” Modi said.
The three bills passed by Parliament are the Draft Law on Trade in Agricultural Products and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation), 2020, the Agreement for the Guarantee of Prices and Agricultural Services (Empowerment and Protection) of Farmers, 2020 and the Draft Essential Products (Amendment) Act, 2020.
Congress, along with many other opposition parties, has asserted that the bills will harm the interests of farmers and benefit businesses, a claim denied by the government.
The Center has stated that the proposed laws will benefit farmers and increase their income.
The prime minister also praised the new labor laws passed by Parliament in the Monsoon session, stating that they will guarantee a timely salary for more than 50 million rupees of organized and unorganized workers.
In his speech, Modi also said that his government has been very clear that it should not excessively interfere in the lives of those who do not need the government.
“The government must use its resources more on the disadvantaged and marginalized,” he said.
“This anniversary of the birth of Pandit Deendayal ji is even more relevant as the reformist decisions taken by the government in recent times left the imprint of the vision displayed by him,” he said.
“Every BJP government, central or state, is trying to ensure that every individual feels included in the growth of the nation and does not feel ignored,” he said, adding that “this is our motivation to keep going.”
It is fitting that the faceless evaluation of tax returns, one of the biggest reforms in our tax system, takes effect as of today on the anniversary of Deendayal Upadhyay’s birth, he noted.
“Our mantra and karma is nation first,” he stated.
