Even when Prime Minister Narendra Modi all but ruled out a rethinking of the three farm laws, arguing that they were part of an interconnected chain of reforms aimed at removing the walls that inhibited the growth of different sectors of the economy, farmer leaders announced Saturday . to intensify the protest against the agricultural laws with the 32 union leaders rapidly advancing on the Singhu border on December 14.
“We saw walls that divide the agricultural sector with its associated segments such as agricultural infrastructure, food processing, warehousing and cold chains. Once these walls are torn down, the reforms will open up new markets for farmers, give them new options and allow them to benefit from the use of technology. This will lead to more investment and the main beneficiary will be the farmer living on small plots of land, ” the prime minister said while delivering the opening speech at the 93rd annual general meeting of the FICCI.
“Our economy does not need walls between different sectors but more and more bridges to support each other,” he stressed. Noting that the government was firm in its reform plans, the prime minister observed: “The confident do not hesitate. It is the weak who feel insecure and do not give opportunities to those around them … The governments that are decisive remove the obstacles ”, adding that government policies led to the development of the village economy.
In briefing industrialists about other allied opportunities opening up in Tier II and Tier III towns and cities, the Prime Minister said: “You must not miss out on investing in villages and small towns. Your investments will open new doors for our brothers and sisters in rural areas and the agricultural sector ”.
The prime minister referred to the latest indicators on the economy to affirm that the situation had changed for the better because the government had prioritized saving lives over trade and commerce.
