Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will attend the centre’s inaugural event on Wednesday. ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ program, celebrating 50 years of India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war that led to the creation of Bangladesh.

The event will be held at the National War Memorial (NWM) in New Delhi on Wednesday, the government said in a statement.

At the event, Prime Minister Modi, Defense Chief of Staff, General Bipin Rawat and the Heads of the Three Services will lay a wreath and pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

PM Modi will also light the monument’s ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaal’ from the Eternal Flame. Four torches will be lit and carried to the cities and towns of the 1971 war heroes who had received the gallantry awards: Param Vir Chakra and MahaVir Chakra.

“The land from the villages of these laureates and from the areas where the main battles were fought in 1971 is being taken to the NWM,” the government statement said.

Various commemorative events will be held across India in which the Veterans of War and Veer Naris will be congratulated and events such as band performances, seminars, exhibitions, team shows, film festivals, conclave and adventure activities are planned. the statement added.

Several other dignitaries will also be present at the event.

In December 1971, the Indian Armed Forces achieved a decisive and historic victory over the Pakistani Army, which led to the creation of Bangladesh and also resulted in the largest military surrender after World War II.
