Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Pune-based Serum Institute of India on Saturday, which has partnered with global pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca and Oxford University for the COVID-19 vaccine, a senior official said today.

The Central Drug Standards Control Organization has granted permission for the manufacture of COVID-19 vaccine for preclinical testing, examination and analysis to seven companies, two of which are the Serum Institute of India (SII) and Gennova Biopharmaceuticals.

“We have received a confirmation on Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the Serum Institute of India on Saturday, but his minute-by-minute program has yet to be received,” Pune Division Commissioner Saurabh Rao told the Press news agency. Trust of India.

On Tuesday, Rao said there was a possibility of the prime minister’s visit to Pune, and that if that happens, his goal would be to review the status of the candidate vaccine for coronavirus infection and learn about its launch, production and distribution mechanisms.

Mr. Rao also reported that ambassadors and envoys from 100 countries will visit the Serum Institute of India and Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd in Pune on December 4.

Serum Institute of India is the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer by number of doses produced and sold globally.
