New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will discuss the coronavirus situation with the top ministers of seven states, severely affected by the pandemic, on September 23 via videoconference. The meeting comes as most states in the country have witnessed an alarming increase in the number of Covid cases in recent weeks.
The seven states include Delhi, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh, which are the worst hit in the country so far.
On Saturday, India recorded 93,337 new infections in one day, bringing the grand total to more than 53 lakh cases. 95,880 coronavirus patients recovered in the last 24 hours.
Data from the Ministry of Health showed that the country’s recovery rate is now 79.28 percent, the highest in the world.
India, the second most affected country by the coronavirus in the world after the United States, also recorded 1,247 deaths in one day, bringing its total count to 85,619.
About 60 percent of the country’s active coronavirus cases are concentrated in the five most affected states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh.
In September, the country reported nearly one lakh of cases almost every day. His total of cases for the month amounts to a whopping 16.86.769. His positivity rate has risen to 10.58 percent from 7.5 percent in mid-July.
India has the dubious distinction of having the fastest growth rate when it comes to coronavirus cases.
India has doubled its tests in the past month to a total of 6.24 million tests, with 8.81 lakh of tests performed in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry says.
Prime Minister Modi met with the chief ministers of several states last month and said that India will win against the pandemic if the 10 worst affected states defeat the virus.
