New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released 18 billion rupees today to more than nine million farming families under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) program. With the push of a button, Prime Minister Modi enabled money transfer in an event that the ruling BJP has turned into a big exercise amid farmers protesting against three new farm laws.
“Some people are spreading myths and lies that land will be taken away if farmers enter contract farming,” Prime Minister Modi said, alluding to the opposition’s attack that farmers will not benefit from the three new farm laws. .
The delivery of 2,000 rupees to farmers also comes on the anniversary of the birth of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, celebrated as Good Governance Day by the ruling BJP.
The PM-KISAN program provides Rs 6,000 per year to small and marginal farmers, payable in three installments of Rs 2,000 each. It is transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts.
In a video conference, Prime Minister Modi spoke with selected farmers for the event from various states, who recounted the problems they faced and the innovations they made with the help of government grants.
Prime Minister Modi’s event is being seen as an effort to mitigate farmers’ protests by highlighting the benefits of agricultural reforms and exposing success stories in villages across India.
