New Delhi:
Some people in Delhi are trying to teach me democracy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today, responding to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after the latter, in his attack on the government and Prime Minister Modi, said there was “no democracy” in India and that those who rose up against the prime minister were labeled terrorists “even if it was (RSS head) Mohan Bhagwat.”
“There are people in Delhi who always mock and insult me. They want to teach me lessons in democracy. I want to show you the Jammu and Kashmir DDC (District Development District) polls as an example of democracy,” Prime Minister Modi said after to launch the Ayushman Bharat Plan for health insurance coverage for all residents of the union territory.
“Some political forces continue to give lectures on democracy, but they see its duplicity and emptiness. The ruling party in Puducherry has not held elections for local bodies despite the order of the Supreme Court, while Jammu and Kashmir held Panchayat-level elections within a year after becoming territory union, “said the Prime Minister.
He said the recent election of the local body in Jammu and Kashmir “strengthened the roots of democracy” and congratulated voters for exercising their right to vote in the seven-phase elections.
“I would like to congratulate the people of Jammu and Kashmir for strengthening democracy. I watched as the young and old came to the voting booths at the District Development Council (DDC) polls. The people of Jammu and Kashmir strengthened the roots of democracy in DDC polls, “said Prime Minister Modi.
In the first District Development Council (DDC) polls in 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, the Gupkar alliance led by Farooq Abdullah, along with Congress, won in 13 districts. The BJP won in six districts of Jammu.
The BJP, after winning for the first time in Kashmir, said that “the lotus has blossomed” in the Valley.
