New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to citizens of West Bengal, which is linked to the polls, on Thursday, saying that an Aatma Nirbhar Bharat was the vision of Bengal fans and that it can only be done from the ground of the state.
Modi said that the state has the potential to be India’s growth center and that the union government has taken a number of steps through its political initiatives for the development of Bengal.
“In the 21st century, Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’s determination will only come true in West Bengal. We have to take Bengal’s pride, industry and prosperity to new levels. Steps are being taken to improve the lives of the people in Bengal and its rapid development, “Modi said in his virtual address to the people of West Bengal, which was broadcast live at every polling place in its 294 constituencies.
Speaking at the event, which will mark the sixth day of Durga Puja festivities in the state, Modi said that Bengal has the potential to be at the center of the vision of “Purvodaya,” which focuses on the development of the states. from the east to boost growth in the region and the country.
“The central government has adopted the Purvodaya mantra, making continuous decisions for the development of eastern India. West Bengal has an important role to play in this. I am sure that West Bengal will soon move in a new direction by becoming the center of the East, “he added.
He also enlisted a number of measures taken by the union government for the state, including reaching out to central schemes in the state, saying the NDA’s focus has been to provide better facilities for the poor.
“Under Prime Minister Awas Yojana, houses have been built for 30 lakhs of poor people, 90 lakhs of poor women have free gas connection under Ujjwala Yojana, 4 million million bank accounts of poor people have been opened. Not only that, under the Yojana Jal Jeevan Mission, 4 lakh houses have clean running water. There is also constant work being done for Bengal’s infrastructure and connectivity, “he added.
In the context of criticism of the BJP from key opposition parties on the issue of women’s safety and protection, Modi reiterated that the party’s tradition and policy was to strongly support women. She spoke about a number of measures the government has taken to improve the lives of women, including Mudra Yojana, the girls’ literacy program, Poshan Abhiyan, increased maternity leave and standing commission in the armed forces, among others.

Elections in West Bengal are expected to be held in the summer of next year and the current term of the legislative assembly will end on May 30. West Bengal is a high-stakes choice for the BJP as it will face the Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by incumbent Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has been in power for nearly a decade.
