Prime Minister Modi Praises Brave Army Dogs Sophie and Vida and Urges People to Bring Home the Indian Breeds

Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to the 68th edition of the monthly radio broadcast “Mann ki Baat” on Sunday.

In his address to the nation, Prime Minister Modi spoke about the importance of ensuring one’s safety while maintaining social distancing amid the coronavirus. He mentioned the made-in-India apps that are gaining popularity after the Chinese apps ban, the importance of toys in a child’s development, and the incredible contribution of teachers in the ensuing pandemic.

However, it was his mention of Sophie and Vida, the army dogs who were given the ‘Commendation Cards’ on Independence Day, that became a hot topic on the microblogging site Twitter. The Prime Minister further urged his compatriots to adopt loyal canines raised in India that are easy to keep.

While Vida the dog was instrumental in detecting five mines and one grenade, Sophie, an explosives detection dog, saved lives by sniffing at the accelerator used to start improvised bombs.

Shortly after Prime Minister Modi’s Mann ki Baat concluded, Twitterati arrived to acknowledge the efforts of the brave and precious canines that ended up saving human lives.

Speaking of festivals, Modi praised Indian citizens for being disciplined in such difficult times.

“Usually these days are destined for various festivals, but the coronavirus has changed that. People are much more cautious now and the discipline is moving and inspiring,” he said.
