Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to India’s First Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on Saturday on his 131st birthday.
“My humble tribute to the country’s first prime minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary,” Modi tweeted.
Nehru was born on November 14, 1889 in Prayagraj of Uttar Pradesh. He took his last breath on May 27, 1964.
He became prime minister on August 15, 1947, after taking an active role in the country’s freedom struggle.
In India, Children’s Day is celebrated on November 14 of each year as a mark of respect for Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India.
Nehru was affectionately called ‘Chacha Nehru’ and was known to emphasize the importance of giving love and affection to children.
After Nehru’s death, it was unanimously decided to celebrate his birthday as ‘Bal Diwas’ or Children’s Day in India.
On this day, a number of activities are organized for students in schools across the country, such as games, contests, etc., while government agencies pay tribute to the late prime minister and organize commemorative events on this day.
