Prime Minister Modi opens flats for MPs, praises them for facilitating Parliament’s session even during the pandemic

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated multi-story flats for Members of Parliament (MPs) at Dr BD Marg in Delhi. A total of 76 homes have been developed from eight old bungalows, which were over 80 years old, as noted in a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Saturday.

The speaker from Lok Sabha Om Birla was present at the virtual opening of the flats. Prime Minister Modi began his speech by wishing Birla on her 58th birthday, which falls on the same day, and congratulated MPs on the inauguration of the facility.

The Prime Minister noted that not only the MP’s residences, but several other projects were long overdue, which were completed by his government, and ahead of time. “A long 23-year wait for the Ambedkar International Center came to an end under our government. We also built the National War Memorial near the Gateway of India in memory of our brave men. The new building of the Central Information Commission, as well as the National Police Memorial, were built under this government, ”he said.

He then praised MPs for facilitating Parliament’s procedures even during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, noting how both chambers took turns working one after the other even on weekends and also how all parties helped the smooth running of the Camera in the Monsoon session.

Prime Minister Modi also pointed out how in 2014 more than 300 MPs, including himself, were MPs for the first time. This number, he noted, was 260 in 2019. On the productivity of Parliament, he said: “The 16th Lok Sabha approved 15% more bills than the 15th. The 17th Lok Sabha, in the first session, did 135% work in the allotted time. The Rajya Sabha was also 100% efficient. “

The Prime Minister also mentioned several key pieces of legislation that have been passed in the last 12 to 18 months, including agricultural laws, labor reforms, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Triple Talaq law and the integration of the people of Jammu and Kashmir with general development (repeal of article 370).

Prime Minister Modi ended his speech with a ‘shloka’ in Sanskrit which means “our achievement of a goal depends on whether we are really determined to achieve it or not.”

“Today we have the means and the determination to achieve our goals,” he said.
